How to survive breastfeeding at night?

Night feeding and waking up at night ( being painful especially in the first weeks of baby's life) are one of the biggest nightmares of young mothers. Below, you'll find piece of advice on how to get through this hard and demanding (but unforgettable) time.



1. Although it might sound ironically - but when the baby cries at night to have some milk, let's not try to wake the baby up even more than he/she is. Let's not lit the light up or talk too much to the baby. 

I know it is the baby that makes you wake up, not the other way round:) Having this in mind, we should make our best to feed the baby efficiently and let them fall asleep as soon as possible without engaging baby in any interaction. When your baby wakes up, gently take him/her and bring close to your chest, at the same time avoid establishing more contact, for example do not talk to the baby without the need as the child would fall asleep faster.

2. Try to keep your child sleeping "at hand." 

If you have to get up at night to feed your baby 5-6 times (this may happen in the first days after birth), it is much easier to reach for the baby sleeping in the same room or even in the same bed cot next rather than having to force yourself to go to another room. Before you get to the baby's room, the child will already be awake. If you sleep in the same bedroom, you won't have to walk at night several times. This can make a huge difference when you are fighting for every minute of the precious sleep time .

3. Sleep off the night during the day along with your baby. In the first weeks of the newborn, the baby may require frequent feeding both during the day and night, so the tip for you would be to catch up on your sleep time during the day. Even half an hour of a nap during the day may bring you back the needed life energy.
