Ice cream during breast feeding

Can you eat ice cream during breastfeeding? Generally , ice cream is not forbidden during breastfeeding but should pay attention to some important details.

- In the first weeks of feeding you should avoid ice cream of “exotic” flavors - that is, for example, strawberry ice cream , orange ice cream, tropical –flavored, or coca cola ice cream .
- For obvious reasons , you should not eat alcoholic ice cream –e.g. containing rum or other alcohol
- At the beginning I would rather avoid chocolate ice cream and ice cream containing nuts, especially if you have previously observed that your baby had a bad (allergic) reaction after eating chocolate or nuts - some children may be allergic to it (but not necessarily !)
- Avoid ice cream from an unknown source , especially in hot weather - ice cream contain raw egg yolk  which potentially can be a source of salmonella
- The safest ice cream for mom nursing are water ices (popiscles) cream ice cream or vanilla ice cream . They have the least artificial flavorings and colorings . You can also try for example an ice cream with raisins , raspberry ice cream , gooseberry ice cream ,  apricot ice cream , currant ice cream .
- If your child reacts badly to dairy products - avoid the classic ice cream, based on milk or cream , instead you can try ice lollys (water ices) . Ice lollys can be done by yourself at home (you just a plastic cup to pour the juice , such as raspberry , apple or another juice, add a little sugar and water , toss the stick and freeze it for about 2 hours).  Nursing mum can also eat fruit sorbets .
