What tea can you drink during breastfeeding time? Is black tea safe for your child and in what quantities can it be consumed? Why is it better to be careful with green tea? What kinds of fruit tea are recommended for nursing mums?

Black tea can be consumed during breastfeeding but in rather small amounts. Breastfeeding mum should limit drinking strong, black tea due to the high content of caffeine, which actually can have the same effect as caffeine in coffee, the only difference is that it works more slowly. I think that one cup of weak black tea will not do much harm, as in the case of coffee - you can drink it in small quantities), but I'd rather not drink black tea in excessive quantities (a few cups a day). Otherwise, the child may become more agitated and may not want to sleep or can have trouble falling asleep.

Green tea differs from black tea in terms of processing, so when it comes to caffeine content, the situation is quite similar to the black tea. Some believe that drinking green tea in some cases can negatively influence absorption of iron. Hence, if your child does not have a large number of red blood cells or doctors suspect anemia, it'd be safer to avoid green tea, as it can further reduce the absorption of iron, which obviously plays a large role in the production of red blood cells.

In fact, the best solution for nursing is drinking fruit tea. Breastfeeding mum can drink such fruit teas as: apple tea, blackcurrant tea, raspberry tea, cranberry tea, forest fruit tea. I wouldn't recommend fruit with exotic tea, particularly at the beginning of the breastfeeding period.

Breastfeeding mum may drink chamomile tea. fennel tea safely.

Breastfeeding mum should avoid slimming teas, teas of unknown origin, containing artificial flavors and herbs with an unknown effect. It is not recommended to drink mint tea due to the fact that it can adversely affect lactation.
